Building the Future essays I am writing this because I feel there is something I must pass on, a terrific contagion that has the potential to change the world. I have experienced something quite beautiful and I want to ensure that others receive that same blessing. I am talking about optimism, not in the sense of believing everything will be fine and we should just sit back, or in the sense of believing everyone will work selflessly toward common goals, I am talking about a profound awe at the possibilities afforded us by the universe, the future. I do not believe one should live for the future, live for today and you live for today and tomorrow, but one of life's greatest pleasures is in overcoming obstacles and solving problems so it follows that in solving the problems of today we create a better future for everyone. I say that problems such as pollution, poverty, world hunger, oppression and anything else you can think of can be solved, perhaps it is youthful idealism but for what purpose do the young become idealistic other than to provide the world with a new outlook and ideas to create their future? If we restrict ourselves by claiming that something is impossible, what do we gain? If it is and we try to find a solution (not even at the implementation stage) what do we lose? Ideas are free, they cost us nothing and give us so much, they are the first step to creation. Ideas are the first step on the road to solving problems, and all you need to do to get them is to think. For instance, if I wished to end world hunger, a huge task never before successfully tried, so firstly I might think that the past is a bad place to look for a solution, because it is a problem never solved. So where do we look, well although the past won't give us our solution it might give some other ideas that will lead to ours, technology is also an interesting avenue to explore, both existing and non existing (this is how new technology comes into being). According to recent research conducted by National Alliance to End Homelessness, the majority of homeless Americans have mental illnesses, severe physical disabilities or alcohol/drug addictions. Undoubtedly, these factors influence the development of American society to a great extent. Some of the policies suggested in this video involve government policies and funds. In my opinion, this is an appropriate use of public funds because homelessness stands for poor conditions of life, while public funds should be used for the good of the public. I completely agree with John Bosco Nkumunue (2014), who states that ââ¬Å"t he appropriate use of public funds means money for giving opportunities to people in efficiency and qualityâ⬠. I believe that the appropriate use of public funds is essential to address homelessness. The use of public funds fits inside of appropriate use because it contributes to the development of well-organized society. The policies described in this video may be controversial. My concerns about these policies are based on their nature because in some cases, this prevention is directed toward the improvement of politically damaging statistical data regarding homelessness rate. The web search on the policies intended to reduce or eliminate homelessness shows that there are many efforts aimed at finding solutions to this social problem. The example of a potentially effective response to the problem of homelessness is the policy developed and implemented by the Department of Veterans Affairs. This policy is targeted toward veterans who experience homelessness or are at risk of being homeless. The most important elements that make this solution effective include well-organized structure of policy implementation, the appropriate funding, public and government support.

Flexibility is the The ability of an organisation to adapt the size, composition, responsiveness and cost of the people inputs required to achieve organisational objectives (Pilbeam and Corbridge, 2010). There are different forms of flexibility which are numerical flexibility, functional flexibility, financial flexibility, locational flexibility and temporal flexibility. Numerical flexibility is where employers can change the size of their workforce as their labour requirements change. Functional flexibility is the ability of an organization to move employees to other duties or responsibilities within the company. Locational flexibility is that employees can work from home instead of coming to the office. Types of temporal flexibility are Part time working, home working, job Sharing, term time working, annual Hours Zero hours, 9 day fortnight/compressed hours. The table below shows that ââ¬Å"Between 2006 and 2011 there was a general increase across all modes of flexible working (Table 2). Teleworking (TN0910050S) saw the greatest rise, being offered by 14% of employers in 2006 and 59% in 2011. The Atkinsonââ¬â¢s Flexible Firm Model is a technique used by the managers of a company to organize the work place with the help of different forms of flexibility to efficiently make full use of its work force. The model is based on the principle of dividing the work force into core and peripheral groups. The core group consists of workers that are vital to the company, the work force is functionally flexible and are very difficult to replace because of some special skills, knowledge about a product or market and experience in the field. The peripheral group consists of workers who are numerically flexible. This because of the worker in this group can be replaced easily, the supply in labour market is high, they were only needed for a specific task or they might be only needed in the peak time of a business. For a worker it is better to be of the core than the periphery as they would have job security, improved conditions of work and a better pay rate as they cannot be replaced easily. The model also shows how important can the external workers be for the business. For example sub contracted workers like the cleaning staff of an airline are not core part of the company but they are important in running of the business (oxford human resource management). According to BT Case study,â⬠BT demonstrates the power of flexible working as it has adapted the way it manages people and the way they work to stay competitive and responsive. The company has what is believed to be one of the largest flexible working projects in Europe ââ¬â the BT Work style project. Flexible working is available to almost everyone in BT, and BT now has over 70,000 flexible workers ,from senior managers to contact centre staff. At BT, flexible working is business as usual. Already seven out of 10 people work flexibly and nearly 10% are home based. It has saved the company millions in terms of increased productivity and cut costs. See figure 1 below This clearly shows that BT has used flexible working and gained a lot from it, BT used compressed hours to lengthen engineers days which led to high level of job completion customer satisfaction and engineers enjoyed half day off a week which creates motivation among the employees. : British gas has been using flexible working for a long time and it has been their key element in business strategy. British gas offers its employees different types of flexible working which has enabled the company to offer 24 hour service for its customers. British gas flexible working provisions include allowing university students to study, letting people work longer or shorter hours, part-time and full-time roles, flexible hours to allow for childcare, and remote working and they also support home working for some employees. Benefits of offering flexible working for British Gas are that they want to attract and retain the best talent, regardless of background and responsibilities and they want a diverse workforce that reflects community and customer base. Offering flexible working increases employeeââ¬â¢s loyalty the brand and provides a better environment to work. British Gas has been chosen as one of the Top 50 Great Places to Work for the 3rd year running rising four places to number 26 in the list (British Gas 2012). Marks and spencer revised their working in February 2010 to give greater emphasis to the requirement for line managers to give all formal flexible working requests due consideration, and agree those requests that are beneficial to both company and the employee. Marks and spencer currently supports these types of flexible working, part-time working, job-sharing, term-time working and home working on a part-time basis depending on the job, flexible retirement options and career leave of up to nine unpaid months to study. Marks and spencer are committed to employee engagement and believe that flexible working contributes to their levels of engagement. Other benefits include attraction of the best talent, retention of our existing talent, and productivity across the business, motivation to give great service increased morale. All these factors lead to better quality service being offered to its customers. (Marks and Spencer plc 2013). Accenture offers the following flexible working provisions flexible hoursââ¬â¢ reconfiguration of existing hours over contractual number of days, part-time working, and job-sharing, home-enabled working leave of absence policy: allowing employees to take unpaid leave to pursue activities outside of the working environment. The company also makes full use of multiple flexible working arrangements simultaneously, and any type of flexible working is available to each level f employees. (CIPD 2012) Accenture has seven business reasons to create a more flexible, supportive work environment which are to attract and retain a broad range of talented people, to raise morale and increase job satisfaction, to increase productivity and improve business results to enhance commitment and engagement and to cut health care costs and last to attract investors. More than 80% of Accenture e mployees say that achieving workââ¬âlife balance is important. Fifty-two per cent of Accenture UK employees also said they are already working flexibly at Accenture and these 52% show increased levels of engagement (2013 Accenture). Companies offer flexibility to its workers as they are benefited from it but there are some draw backs as well like some employers that offer flexible working are doing it on case by case basis rather than making it general work practice, an employee that needs flexible working can come to the employer but it is up to the employer to agree or disagree. When the employer approves or disapproves the employees request it creates internal conflict among employees. If an employee finds it unfair that some employees can work flexibly and some cannot, they feel that some workers are preferred more over them which creates conflict and it leads to de-motivated workers causing the standard of work done by them to be less efficient. Although companies with flextime often use core hours to encourage teamwork, employees that work inconsistent schedules cannot spend as much time in collaboration with co-workers as employees that work the same hours. Employees may only have a few hours a day for this collaboration. In some workplaces, work team communication takes place in an ongoing and spontaneous fashion that is hard to limit to just a few hours. Flextime can slow down the pace of work team production because of this restricted collaboration (Kokemuller 2013). The costs involved in administering flexible are also high which restricts small businesses to adapt it. He was often depicted as a handsome young man, dressed in fawnskin, and carrying a goblet and an ivy- covered staff. à à à à à Some myths hold that Dionysus was the son of Zeus--the king of the god-- and Persephone--queen of the underworld--but most myths state that he is the son of Zeus and a mortal woman named Semel. This woman Semele was not any mortal, though. She was a princess, and a beautiful one at that. Zeus was notorious for being rather prolific, and when his wife, the goddess Hera heard that he had gone off and mated with a mortal, she became quite upset. Hera, in an attempt to exact her revenge, appeared to Semele and told her to ask Zeus to appear to her in his divine form. When Zeus obliged, Semele was immediately consumed in flames, for no mortal can look upon a god in his natural state. However, Zeus saved the unborn Dionysus by sewing him up in his thigh, thus incubating him. à à à à à What happened next is different in every story. Some myths say he lived with a king and queen loyal to Zeus until Hera discovered him, and, in a jealous rage, warped their brains. In this version of the story, Dionysus was turned into a goat by his father in an attempt to hide him from Hera; from then on he had small horns on his head. à à à à à After he was safe, he went to live with the nymphs, who taught him to make wine. Hera eventually found him again, and this time she also warped his brain. The nymphs rejected him, and he went to live with the satyrs, who were men with goat legs and horns, and their leader Silenus. Being prepared for the new school year
As a proactive teacher new to the classroom I would want to be completely prepared for the entourage of first day students starting a new school year. I realize that in order to be totally prepared and ready for any problems that may arise I need to consider how to divert those problems before they manifest; by preparing myself and my classroom, and ensuring that both foster a conducive, positive learning environment I will be ahead of the game. The list of preparation tasks that I would undertake are as follows: à ·Ã à à à à à à à Make sure I have a full grasp of the curriculum and prepare as many materials and lessons as I can ââ¬â for the first month at least, being sure to take all learning styles and strategies into account. à ·Ã à à à à à à à Make sure I know relevant personnel in the school, where they are located and how I get in contact with them. à ·Ã à à à à à à à Obtain a list of school regulations and procedures. à ·Ã à à à à à à à Make sure I know where supplies and resources are located and how they are obtained, including the library and computer facilities. à ·Ã à à à à à à à Make sure I know where and how everyday activities occur, such as where assignments are submitted, where the toilets are located and where to send students if they are ill. à ·Ã à à à à à à à Develop a plan or list of strategies on how I will deal with the little problems or concerns that may arise, such as late students, misuse of resources, special needs students and timetabling conflicts. à ·Ã à à à à à à à Determine a set of class rules ââ¬â not too many ââ¬â so that students understand what is acceptable behaviour in the classroom and what I expect of them.
